Daylight Saguaro

Soft pastel close-up of a saguaro cactus showing ridged surface texture in daylight.

This work is part of my series focused on the curious textures of the natural world. Using soft pastel, I painted this cactus at the actual scale I experienced it: towering, architectural, and full of movement. The warm sunlit ridges and cool shaded folds reflect the cactus’ natural way of managing heat, a quality I amplified through color. Coming from a world of trees, I wanted to convey how exotic and astonishing this cactus felt when I finally experienced its structure up close.
