My First Watercolor Plein Air

My partner and I went mountain biking at my favorite running trail in Texas. It had been a while since he was able to exercise because of his shoulder, so it felt like the perfect outing. The trail has fun biking obstacles, and we made a whole day of it. While he biked some more, I decided it was the perfect chance to sketch.

This time I had something new. He had given me a small travel watercolor kit with clever features like water storage, a tiny palette, and a compact brush. I had never used watercolor before, and I quickly noticed some of its challenges. Still, I enjoyed experimenting and felt I managed to capture the evening sun passing through the trees. Overall, I left the trail happy with the day and with the sketch.

Watercolor on paper. About 1 h sketch.
