A Humble Trash Can

My partner needed shoulder surgery after dislocating it during indoor skydiving, a birthday present that took an unexpected turn. It was a stressful day, and waiting in the lobby only made the emotions stronger. Luckily I had already built the habit of carrying my sketching supplies, and this time I also brought along pens.

There was not much to draw in the lobby, but I noticed a simple trashcan. It may not have been the most exciting subject, yet the wall of windows filled the space with light, and the reflections on the stainless steel caught my eye. I focused on capturing both the metallic shine and the dull surface inside. The sketch took about an hour and a half, though it did not feel that long because I was busy with the work. I was happy with how it turned out and I remember it fondly.

Micron pen and white charcoal on toned paper. About 1.5 h sketch.
